SHIATSU BODYWORK THERAPY
Shiatsu is a non-invasive, hands-on therapy that uses finger and
thumb pressure on acupressure points of the body, as well as assisted
stretches and soft tissue manipulation. During a therapeutic shiatsu
treatment the body and mind enter into a state of deep relaxation,
improving organ function and reducing muscle tension.
Shiatsu therapy can help to manage many acute and chronic conditions,
such as: Headaches/migraines; back, neck and shoulder pain; constipation;
carpal tunnel syndrome; insomnia; digestive issues; sciatica; menstrual
problems; arthritis; asthma; anxiety and depression.
The effects of shiatsu treatments are cumulative, so it is best
to start with a therapeutic session plan. Acute problems may require
2-6 treatments, while chronic issues may require 6-12 treatments.
Our certified shiatsu therapist will recommend a treatment program
that is best suited for your needs.

About the Shiatsu Practitioner
Maria van der Meij graduated from the Meridian Shiatsu Institute
in Paoli, PA and has been a practicing therapist since 1991.
Preparing for your Shiatsu Treatment
Loose fitting, comfortable clothing made of natural fibers, is
best for your session. Any jewelry should be taken off. For the
most relaxing experience it is recommended that the client bathe
or shower prior to their Shiatsu since this will promote circulation
and help relax the body. Shiatsu is practiced on a comfortable futon
mat placed on the floor.
